December in Los Angeles means ... nothing at all, except you can still eat outdoors.
Tam O'Shanter: Oh gosh I love this place in December. It's a Scottish restaurant (though they'll happily let you think they're Irish on St. Patrick's Day), so the food is kind of Christmas-y year-round, but in December with the lights and tinsel everywhere, it's just perfection. (I mean, it was Walt Disney's regular. You know?)
Tempura Carlos Jr: This is some extremely solid tempura. All the classics (tempura pumpkin, you gorgeous creature), and something I'd never seen before: poached egg, tempura'd. The appetizers are delightful, too.
Misky Misky Cocina Peruana: Such a glorious selection of seafood in various Japanese, Peruvian, and Japanese-Peruvian preparations. And of course lomo saltado too, and all the other bowls of comfort that Peruvian cuisine is so good at.
Yang's Kitchen: It's almost always true that a restaurant with a grab-bag menu isn't going to be very good. But the exception proves the rule: at Yang's Kitchen you might order smoked fish dip, cold sesame noodles, and a cornmeal mochi pancake, and it'll be the best breakfast of your life.
The Black Cat: I want to shine a light on The Black Cat because the owners are doing something very community minded: leaving the patio open all day and letting people use it as a gathering place when the restaurant is closed. It seems small, but it's a lovely testament to the restaurant's roots as a place where justice was fought for.
